APPEARANCE

Childhood dangers and adolescent difficulties are now set long behind her, as Nonceba has crossed the threshold into adulthood. The final spurts of her rapid growth has settled her a head taller than many of her female peers, no doubt a direct result of her father's lineage, which has given her a strong and stocky form build for endurance and strength instead of speed and agility. Her sleek coat is the color of winter grass, a sun-baked golden-rye with a lighter throat and abdomen. A distinct, auburn stripe runs from her neck to her rump, though it is dissected by four diagonal scars running from left shoulder to right hip, long gone white with age. A tail of average length sports a tuft of black, while her eyes are a deep and bittersweet chocolate.

HISTORY

  • Youngest of her litter, Nonceba and her siblings were attacked shortly after their birth by Kinoro, a lion from the Golden Paw Pride. Formerly a love of her mother who never got over her leaving him, he killed Nonceba's brother and sisters and nearly her - leaving her back all but flayed open, scars she carries to this day. He was later killed by Mzohari and Nabana after they chased him into the Pridelands. Mtukutu was not amused. Kizingo later saved Nonceba from the subsequent infection that nearly claimed her.
  • She grew up, for a time, as the youngest and generally-accepted pluckiest of the pride's gang of cubs. She discovered a lost lion cub on the outskirts of the pridal lands as a juvenile and begged the pride to keep him. They accepted. The lion was Kori. Her persistance in getting him to open up, and led to a friendship that's blossomed much further as the two grew.
  • She's famous for an on-again-off-again friendship and rivalry with Vikali since they were juveniles, and the two have laughed together just as much as they've fought. It's a strange relationship, but one that's survived thus far.
  • She struggled through her adolescence, both with learning to hunt, and having to reclaim Kori after he was exiled by Mzohari after he and Nonceba discovered some deeper, and more physical, feelings. She rounded up several friends and, with Balana's blessing, trekked off to the Natamba to reclaim him - and accidentally meeting Kori's polar opposite and red-maned brother, Ekundu, who was more than content to remain a rogue than come back with the search party.
  • Nonceba gave birth to a litter of four cubs - two males and two females. The youngest, a male named Mtatio, was born small and somewhat sickly, and his silent dissapearance from among the litter is generally blamed on his small size and illness.
  • Later, Nonceba was brutally attacked on the border while walking with her eldest two by a rogue lion, and her cubs were stolen and she was badly injured. Gadi has since been recovered, but Kiokota was believed slain. Nonceba and Kori have kept the closely guarded since, and the lioness has lost much of her vibrancy as she tried to recover from the loss.
  • Despite her xenophobia, Nonceba left the pride with her mate and son for an unknown reason to join Kori's brother Ekundu.

FUN FACTS

  • The image of Nonceba was rendered by Vikali!
  • Nonceba has suffered from xenophobia since she was a cub, introduced thanks to her parents' early paranoia of strangers after her birth. She never even stepped foot over the borders until she was an adolescent, and that was only to retrieve Kori. She has never done so since, and is extremly wary around all strangers.
  • Nonceba was originally named Sunni, or so Kenta claims. Named for Kenta's 'sunny disposition'. She was renamed to Nonceba, or Hope, after the attack in hopes the name might bring her some luck as she layed dying of her injuries.
